The 2018 IBJJF World Championship took place in Long Beach, California at the Walter Pyramid on May 31st through June 3rd. This is one of the biggest Jiu-Jitsu tournaments of the year, with hundreds and hundreds of athletes gathering to compete for the top spot on the podium.
The athletes from the GD Jiu-Jitsu Worlds Camp had great performances, each competitor showing so much perseverance and heart. On Day 1 of Worlds and the International Novice Championship, our white belts and blue belts fought hard, with Teague Barry and Morgan Huppenthal winning bronze in their respective divisions of the Novice Championship and Isaias Higino winning four matches in an impressive fashion to become the 2018 Adult Blue Belt Rooster-Weight World Champion.
Day 2 and 3 we saw some exciting action from the purple, brown, and black belts. Aaron Wilson and Adrian Nez each won three of their four matches in stacked brown belt divisions, narrowly missing the podium. Adrian finished two of his opponents with beautiful submissions in the Middleweight division, both in less than 30 seconds!
The black belts all had nail biting matches, Horlando Monteiro and Alex Sodré both made it to the quarterfinals of their divisions and Marcio Andre won Bronze in the Black Belt Featherweight division.
