This is an amazing atmosphere for not just adults but the whole family. Even if you wanna do it just as a personal goal to lose weight and have fun doing it, or a little more serious to compete. They have something for everyone. Me as a woman I enjoy it as a self defense class. I feel this is almost the closest thing to real world attack. You will most likely be on the ground and need to get off your back or choke someone out from the bottom. My lovely saying "They don't tap in the real world!" Just check them out. We are more like family here than anything else. We look out for each other and help in anyway we can!

My family and I have been training at GD Jiu Jitsu for over 6 years. We enjoy the positive vibe at this location. The gym is very clean. They offer so many class times from 6:30am to 6:30pm Monday through Friday. Also, they have open mat during the weekend. The coaches are very knowledgeable and experienced in the art of jiu jitsu. I definitely would recommend this academy!

I'm older (almost 50) and out of shape (I wear an A6 gi). I cant do anything about my age, but I figured I could work on my weight. I was really self conscious about coming in. I met and talked with Gustavo and he made me feel at ease. The people and trainers have been great and a real help. This is definitely something out if my comfort zone, but day by day it's getting better and better and I have never sweated more in my life, definitely a calorie burner! It's been great.

Jair Lourenço

5th DEGREE BLACK BELT

Biography

Jair Lourenço was born in Natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. He discovered Jiu-Jitsu in the early 1990’s and trained for a short spell with instructor Banni Cavalcanti. As he received his blue belt, Jair opened up his own small gym and started training mainly with friends and whoever wanted to come in and train. These were the early days of the Equipe Kimura.

Being incredibly creative and with a keen eye for detail, Jair Lourenco picked up a strong following and his academy began to bear fruits in local tournaments. As time went by, Jair felt the need to be supported by a bigger organization in order for his team to compete in sanctioned tournaments around the country. With such a good track record, it was easy to find established academies willing to join forces with the team from the northeast and so Kimura joined Kioto.

The bond between Kimura and Nova Uniao came in 1997, when Jair was a brown belt. He came to Rio de Janeiro on occasion and noticing that the training at Nova Uniao was more suitable for himself and his students, Jair decided to shake hands with Andre Pederneiras, cutting the string with Kioto in order to start his long and prosperous relationship with Nova Uniao.

The strong MMA focus of Jair Lourenco also helped Nova Uniao’s MMA roster, adding several important fighters to their teams such as Dinarte Lima Junior (AKA Dinarte “Silva”), Michele Tavares, Gleison Tibau, Renan Barao, Jussier “Formiga”, Silmar Rodrigues, Ronny Markes, and many others.

Now, Jair is the MMA head coach of Bellator Champion, Ryan Bader, in Arizona and also part of the coaching staff at GD Jiu-Jitsu Academy.
